Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (風の谷のナウシカ) is a post-apocalyptic manga written and illustrated by acclaimed anime director Hayao Miyazaki which serialised intermittently from 1982 to 1994. Plot Summary: In the post-apocalyptic future, large parts of the world have been swallowed up by forests of poisonous fungi. The remaining humans live near the fungus and its monstrous insectoid inhabitants, trying to prevent its spread. One of the human kingdoms, the peaceful Valley of Wind, loves its gentle Princess Nausica? and her father the king, but their peace is about to be broken, as they are swallowed up in the machinations of their larger, warmongering neighbours. However, Nausica? has hidden potential, and may yet change the fate of the world.

First of all, this is the first film that the animation genius Miyazaki ever attempted through his own studio. It is also a greatly condensed story, being adapted from a manga that it's creator wrote which was quite lengthly. That being said, this movie is PERFECT...

The five star rating is not for the English language version of this film, but for the original though subtitled Japanese version. My hope is that with the Oscar that SPIRITED AWAY won, following the enormous success of PRINCESS MONONOKE, Disney will bring out a new and unbutchered version of this great, great Miyazaki classic...
